The ‘Subhuman’ Rants of Ted Nugent and Alec Baldwin

Why is Alec Baldwin leaving New York City?

The only thing more disturbing than Alec Baldwin’s rant on Sunday about leaving public life is Ted Nugent’s rant on Monday about staying in it.

If you make a chart with political extremes on it, you can save time by labeling one end “Baldwin” and the other “Nugent.” But if you make a chart of serious problems of the psyche, the side that says “Super Self-Deluded” will have Messrs. Baldwin and Nugent right there as brothers in arms. Or putting up their dukes.

Baldwin, for his part, penned a 5,000-word essay for New York magazine saying he’s finished with public life. And just in case you thought he was promising to leave show business for the umpteenth time, no. He means only that he’s leaving New York where he won’t have to run into people on the street who cause him to yell things that are misconstrued by the “gay media culture” as slurs.

Baldwin blamed everyone but himself for his woes, including CNN’s Anderson Cooper and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

You see, he didn’t yell an anti-gay slur at a paparazzo he has a history with. Because Alec Baldwin doesn’t use terms like that. It was Harvey Levin of TMZ who took whatever word it was and made it a slur. The words, though on videotape, were indecipherable, Baldwin said. He doesn’t know himself what the word was because he doesn’t “pull out a pen and take notes” when he’s yelling at people on the street.

But Baldwin found his own tweet calling a reporter a “toxic little queen” more difficult to toss aside since it was actually in print and showed up on people’s computer screens. But don’t think he didn’t try.

“At the time, I didn’t view ‘toxic little queen’ as a homophobic statement. I didn’t realize how those words could give offense, and I’m sorry for that,” he said.

Nugent, a board member of the NRA and campaigner for GOP candidates, probably has a few slurs up his sleeve for the noted liberal Baldwin. But he’s clearly been saving them for President Obama.

Nugent found himself embroiled in controversy last week when CNN’s Wolf Blitzer publicized an interview in which the rocker called Obama a “subhuman mongrel.” That term, Blitzer noted, was used by the Nazis to justify the killing of 6 million Jews in the Holocaust.

Nugent agreed to be interviewed by CNN’s Erin Burnett on Monday, but, like Baldwin, seemed removed from reality. He made light of the situation, and swore his words had no racial overtones.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, who is running for governor against expected Democratic nominee Wendy Davis, dropped Nugent from his campaign appearances amid the controversy, but didn’t condemn what he said. Nugent apologized on Friday and said he should be more constructive in the future and not use Detroit “street fight terminology.”

And, like Baldwin, Nugent blamed the media.

“For anyone to claim that I’m a racist or it had racist overtones is the typical crap that the propaganda ministry and the media — particularly most of your co-workers there (at CNN) …” Nugent began. He then launched into an attack on his Piers Morgan, who announced Sunday his CNN show was ending over poor ratings.

Nugent was a frequent guest on Piers Morgan Live as the two sparred over gun rights. Nugent on Monday claimed, “I got Piers Morgan’s ass thrown out, and I’ll do the same with Don Lemon and Wolf Blitzer when I can.”

Nugent says he isn’t racist because he, you know, has black friends. And Baldwin, he can’t be a “homophobe” because, he’s in showbiz. “I am awash in gay people, as colleagues and as friends,” he explains

Nugent is definitely all-out crazy. I’d blame it on the years of drugs and alcohol, but he swears he’s never done either. Baldwin, on the other hand, is just hothead who can’t think rationally when he’s enraged.

I’m not totally convinced Baldwin’s move-out-of-New-York gambit isn’t just a clever ploy to evade the millionaires’ tax Mayor Bill de Blasio has up his sleeve. Get out of town, blame it on persecution from the “gay media” – and avoid the very taxes you advocate.

Alec Baldwin might just be crazy like a fox. But don’t tell that to Ted Nugent. I’m pretty sure he hunts foxes.
