Malkovich Premiere Leads Cherry Orchard Fest


Beginning in May, The Cherry Orchard Festival Foundation will hold its inaugural International Arts Festival in New York City. The Festival’s mission is to introduce and promote global cultural activity and exchange of ideas, aiming to enlighten and engage audiences through performing and visual arts, educational programs and events.

John-Malkovich-The-Giacomo-Variations_TINIMA20120810_0014_5The Festival kicks off on May 30 with the U.S. premiere of The Giacomo Variations starring Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award-winning actor John Malkovich as that master scoundrel and seducer, Giacomo Casanova. The Giacomo Variations will play four performances at New York City Center (131 West 55th Street). Additional performances will be held on May 31 and June 1 at 8 pm and June 2 at 3 pm. On June 2, following the performance, there will be a Meet-the-Artist VIP reception on the Grand Tier. Tickets are $35-$135.

Israel’s Gesher Theatre, one of the leading international theater companies, returns to New York City with the U.S. premiere of Enemies, A Love Story. The play is based on a novel by Nobel Prize-winning author (and long-time New Yorker) Isaac Bashevis Singer, who died in 1991. The performances will be dedicated in honor of the 65th Anniversary of the State of Israel. Enemies, A Love Story, which will be performed in Hebrew with English and Russian subtitles, will have its opening night performance on June 6 at 8 pm at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Time Warner Center (Broadway & 60th Street at The Time Warner Center) with the VIP reception prior to the show. Additional performances will be held on June 7 at 8 pm, June 8 at 2 pm & 8 pm and June 9 at 2 pm. Tickets are $45-$135. In addition, a 20% student discount, with a valid student ID, will be available at the box office.

Recognized as one of her generation’s great pianists and the Russian Gold Medal winner of the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano competition, Olga Kern, returns to New York City with a solo recital of works by Beethoven, Schumann and Rachmaninov. Ms. Kern will perform at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center on June 7 at 8 pm. Tickets are $28-68.
