A masked assailant attacked The Bolshoi Ballet Theater’s artistic director with acid Thursday evening in Moscow. Sergei Filin suffered severe burns to his face, and may lose his sight, according to Russian news sources.
Police have linked the attack to his professional work, the Russia television network RT reported.
Filin received third-degree burns to his face and eyes, and Moscow doctors are fighting to save his vision. This from RIA Novosti. It could take six months or more for him to recover, Bolshoi Theatre spokesperson Yekaterina Novikova said.
Filin, 43, a former Bolshoi Ballet star, was appointed artistic director in March 2011 amid fierce rivalry for the position.
