So, do you want the same old president who now would prefer to have the military arrest and incarcerate American citizens, or have CIA drones kill them, without warrant or trial? A president who is militarizing local police forces, and increasing phone and electronic surveillance of U.S. citizens, and continuing endless international war?
Or do you want a new guy? A former governor who this weekend-with his VP pick- proved he’s ready to end Medicare and Medicaid as we know it, privatize Social Security, tax the poor and middle class but not the rich, and otherwise move public service into big-money, multi-national private hands? And no doubt continue the totalitarian aggression under the present president and Congress?
Or are you ready to end the slavish crawl as we know it to re-electing a Democrat or Republican to the presidency and to Congress who no longer cares about you or this country? Are you ready to vote for third parties, finally bringing new, alternative energy to the election process and saving the nation from the military-industrial complex President Dwight Eisenhower warned us about?
Sure, Barack Obama and Congress gave you a national health-insurance law, and it can eventually cover 90% of the nation. It will also see the big insurance firms rake in billions. But health insurance isn’t much good to a citizenry under-employed, underpaid, and being continually and expansively deprived of its human and constitutional rights. And if you’re in denial about this, then good luck over the next four years and beyond.
Remember the old F. Scott Fitzgerald quote:
Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful…Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different.
Are you rich? Half of Congress is rich. Forty-seven percent of them are millionaires. Most of the rest want to be. Money and power. The Washington “game” we’ve let them play at our expense.
But they’re not the only Washington millionaires. So is President Obama. So is Mitt Romney. So is Paul Ryan. Joe Biden, evidently, is not; he and his wife reported adjusted gross income for 2010 of $379,035.
They all, presidents, VPs, senators, Congressmen, may tell you they’re not rich, that only billionaires are rich. That’s how they think. “They are different from you and me.”
But they are melded to the Corporatacracy, the military industrial complex. Don’t listen to what they say. Look at their actions and non-actions. It’s why they’ve created and expanded the elusive endless-war shadow of terrorism and its worldwide totalitarian consequences. It’s why the world economy melted down in 2008, is predicted to plummet further after the economic fall of Europe during this decade-and still Wall Street bankers like JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon can sit in his pristine suit before a Senate banking committee flashing his Presidential-seal cufflinks.
Take a look at these three secret government efforts: (1) under George W. Bush, the Fed in 2008 secretly loaned banks $7.7 trillion more than reported; (2) under Obama this year, acting without any Congressional authority, the U.S. Treasury has secretly guaranteed in excess of $2.4 trillion of money market funds; (3) under both presidents, the Trans-Pacific Partnership has been involved in secret negotiations, with only a handful of Senators recently complaining about it.
And that’s just three of the abusive activities they’re involved in.
Have you heard the president or your senators or Congressmember opposing these three scandals? Have you seen them fire Fed head Ben Bernanke or Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner? Do you think they will, or push the president to? Do you really think they care about you? Do you really want to re-elect them? Do you think Romney and Ryan care about you and want to toss out the secret manipulators, put a stop to the endless war that’s enriching the few?
Time to get organized, get educated, and get active. Time to find and elect responsible, transparent, honest Americans who care about the Constitution, who care about you, and not the Coporatocracy. Will you do that? Will you walk away from the Republicans and Democrats and vote for someone who can start to move Washington away from corporate control? Maybe you won’t win this one this coming election, this first try. Or you might. But you’ll be in the fight.
